Why should I write a plan?
You may find that during your time as an assistant you are called upon to not only assist the teacher but to actually teach the English lesson yourself. If this is the case the best option is to be prepared. Once you have prepared your lesson you will feel much more confident walking into the classroom and you will soon be able to relax into your new role.
МОН: конкурс "Учитель року" щороку вдосконалюється
У Міністерстві освіти і науки заявляють, що з кожним роком Всеукраїнський конкурс "Учитель року" удосконалюється. Зокрема, цього року Інститут модернізації та змісту освіти у різних етапах випробувань конкурсу застосовував новітні комп’ютерні технології. Про це під час прес-конференції щодо підсумків проведення конкурсу сказав директор департаменту загальної середньої та дошкільної освіти МОН Юрій Кононенко.
За словами Кононенка, історія конкурсу почалась 20 років тому, а за цей час конкурс ставав більш сучасним.
"Сьогодні освіта реформується, але мета і завдання конкурсу фактично не змінились. Міністерство робить все, аби навіть в складних економічних і соціальних умовах, підтримати вчителів", - наголосив чиновник.
"МОН зараз проводить різного роду навчальні експерименти, в тому числі у викладанні окремих навчальних предметів. Все краще, що було напрацьовано у цьогорічному конкурсі – буде запроваджено у шкільний процес", - сказав директор департаменту загальної середньої та дошкільної освіти.
У свою чергу, начальник відділення змісту позашкільної освіти та виховної роботи Інституту модернізації та змісту освіти Олена Артеменко розповіла, що Міністерством освіти і науки вже підписано наказ щодо проведення 21 конкурсу "Учитель року" у 2015/2016 навчальному році. Конкурс буде проходити у чотирьох номінаціях: історія України, захист Вітчизни, математика, англійська мова.

При цьому інформуємо, що у 2015 р. можуть використовуватися підручники для 4-7-х класів попередніх років видання.

Сертифікація вчителів англійської мови
Сертифікація вчителів стане інструментом для мотивації педагогів, які добровільно її пройдуть. На цьому наголосив заступник міністра освіти і науки Павло Хобзей під час брифінгу в Українському кризовому медіа-центрі.
Зокрема він зазначив, що таким вчителям планується підвищити заробітну плату на 20%.
Водночас, за його словами, сертифікацію проходитимуть і ті учителі, які неналежно виконують свої обов’язки. До прикладу, не вміють додавати дроби, а викладають математику.
«Про таких вчителів говорить батьківська громадськість. Це питання зараз обговорюється з профспілкою», - пояснив Павло Хобзей.
У Міністерстві освіти і науки надано бачення системи сертифікації учителів шкіл, що буде впроваджена в Україні після ухвалення нового закону "Про освіту".
План впровадження сертифікації містить три головних компонента реформи. Зокрема, після прийняття закону, заробітна плата вчителя залежитиме від рівня його кваліфікації.
Учителям буде надано право самостійно обирати місце та спосіб підвищення кваліфікації.
Іншою особливістю є те, що добровільна сертифікація вчителів відбуватиметься у незалежних установах сертифікації кожних 5 років.

teachers’ and learners’ language

classroom management.
What does the CLIL module test?
This module tests your knowledge of:

the learning, thinking and language skills that learners acquire in different areas of the curriculum

lesson planning, the activities and resources needed to support a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach

What does the Knowledge about Language module test?
This module tests your knowledge of the language systems of English for teaching purposes.
What does the Practical module assess?
This module gives you an opportunity to prove that you can:
-
apply your knowledge of planning and teaching to a practical classroom situation
-
plan and deliver lessons which focus on language and skills development
-
set up and manage learning activities
-
manage the classroom environment in a way that encourages your learners’ participation.
How to register
You can enter for any module by registering at one of our approved centres.
You can take TKT whatever your background and teaching experience. It is suitable if you are:
-
either a pre-service or a practising teacher
-
teaching primary, secondary or adult learners
-
a non-first language or first language English speaker
-
a teacher who wants to gain formal recognition of your experience, keep your teaching skills up to date and develop your career opportunities.
You ideally need to have English proficiency at CEFR Level B1 or above.

How to Teach English
If you have studied an ESL teaching course you were probably given a lot of advice on how to teach English by tutors, and by well-meaning friends, colleagues or strangers. Sometimes it's too much to take in so here is what I have found useful.
The 10 most helpful "How to teach English" pieces of advice:
1. You don't need to stick to a lesson plan.
This may come as a shock, but things will happen in your classes that you don't expect! Students will finish some activities too soon and take longer on others. Some things will be easy for them, and others that you expect them to understand quickly will be tougher. It is more important to be flexible than stick rigidly to something that isn't working.
2. You don't need to know all the answers.
Another shock? I taught some classes where they asked me questions I couldn't answer right then. I told them I would find out for them, and I did. As long as you are honest, say you don't know, and then give the answers later, that's fine.
3. Every student is different.
Now, that may be obvious, but so many teachers forget this when they are teaching and treat each student in the same way. That won't work. Get to know your students, their learning styles and their strengths and weaknesses. If possible, create a variety of tasks to suit different students in the class.
4. You can't force students to learn, nor should you.
Teachers often feel responsible if their students don't progress. You can give them the tools for learning and inspire them to want to learn, but then it becomes the individual student's responsibility to learn, not only yours.
5. Have a personality.
Be yourself. Let the students see you're a human being and not a teaching machine. Laugh at yourself if you make mistakes. Bring humor into the classroom.
6. Be encouraging.
Error correction is essential in the right circumstances, but if you correct every mistake then you can easily destroy a student's confidence. Praise good work and never tell students they are stupid. Students who think they are stupid lose motivation.
7. Balance your lessons between different skills.
A teacher who teaches 90% grammar is not helping the students. Communication skills, reading, writing, and vocabulary building are all as important as grammar. Possibly even more important than grammar!
8. Keep an emergency resources box.
Include games, paper, colored pencils, extra worksheets, magazines etc. This will be invaluable if you need to add a new activity into the lesson or to extend something the students are working on.
9. Give homework.
This is controversial! You can't force students to do homework, but if you give them the choice then they will feel encouraged and they can take responsibility for their learning. It is really important to mark the homework if you do give it, and not leave it on your desk for weeks.
10. Have fun!
If you enjoy your lessons, then your students will too.
